Peter Lewis Krider (1821-1895) was a prominent American silversmith who was active in Philadelphia throughout the 19th Century. After apprenticing with John Curry and working for other esteemed firms like Robert & William Wilson and Obadiah Rich, Krider established his own successful business, Krider & Co., in 1850. The firm, later known as Krider & Biddle and finally simply as Peter L. Krider, employed numerous skilled workers and produced vast amounts of high-quality solid silver flatware and hollowware, winning significant praise and awards at the 1876 Centennial Exposition. The business was eventually sold in 1888 but continued to operate under his name until 1910, and his works are now held in major art collections across the United States including at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cooper Hewitt Museum, and Yale University Art Gallery.
