Yuichiro Kato (Born 1926) Japanese, Photomechanical Silkscreen Print. Depicts a figure in a headdress with fan and lanterns in the background, given an eerie aura through added coloration. Signed and numbered along the bottom in pencil in English and kanji. 

Overall Size: 18 x 21 x 1 in. 

Sight Size: 12 x 14 in. 

Yuichiro Kato was born in 1926 in Kyoto, studying art at Kyoto Second Commercial School. Drawn to photography, he first began shooting professionally in 1958, and started working on unique silkscreen printmaking techniques to accentuate his images in 1972. He became famous for incorporating photo-mechanical methods with hand-drawn imagery to produce abstract works that suggest realism simultaneously, akin to rotoscoping. He began lecturing at Aichi Educational University and for the Kyoto Newspaper K.C.A., with regular one man exhibitions of his works since the late 70s.
