William F. Relfe was born in 1895 in Santa Clara, California. He registered for military service in 1918 and served overseas after training as the Presidio, where he was exposed to art while stationed in France. When he returned to the United States he settled in Alameda, where he began to explore art and interact with artists throughout Southern California. He lived in Beverly Hills in the 1940s, his most prolific period, and took classes at a variety of art institutes, always exploring new artforms. He was known for painting Impressionist landscapes and portraits of Native Americans, as well as making crafts, sculptures, and both abstract and realistic images. He passed away peacefully at his home in Daggett in 1986.
