William Leon Stacks (1928–1991) was an American painter known for his evocative landscapes, still lifes, and coastal scenes. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he became the youngest member ever elected to the Rockport Art Association in Massachusetts at just 15 years old. Stacks studied under notable artists William Lester Stevens, William J. Potter, and Lloyd Wesley Broome, and was active in various artistic communities, including the American Art Society, National Arts Club, and North Carolina Art Association. His work is characterized by a keen interest in light and atmosphere, often featuring baroque trees with naturalistic shapes and intricate limbs. Stacks exhibited his paintings in New York, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and his works have been held in collections and museums across the country. He passed away in 1991, leaving behind a legacy of atmospheric and emotive artworks.
