William Alden Brown (Born 1877) was active/lived in Rhode Island. William Brown is known for Landscape painting, art magazine illustration.
W. Alden Brown was a well-educated painter who first attended the Rhode Island School of Design and then went on to further study at the Arts Student League summer class at Woodstock, New York, and to Lyme, Connecticut under Frank Drummond. However, it was the individual instruction he received under the important Providence artists, G.A. Whitaker and E.M. Bannister which affected Brown the most throughout his career. The majority of this artist's works were in oils, although water colors are plentiful. Brown painted primarily landscapes -- with a sizable collection of views of the Monadnock region of New Hampshire and along Rhode Island Shores -- intending to study and master the painting of the varied terrain of the region. W. Alden Brown exhibited widely in the United States. In addition to frequent exhibitions at the Providence Art Club, he exhibited at The Biltmore Water Color Club, Denver Society of Artists, the Albright A Gallery and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Art. He also enjoyed an active free-lance writing career, and was published in several art magazines.
