Will B Johnstone Titled “Voyage End” - Military Pen & Ink.
Image shows the Largest Passenger ship of the time Labeled as S.S. Leviathan (made 1914) on its Final Voyage to the Scrap Yard after it’s historic life. The Ship was originally the pride of Germany titled "Veterland" (German for Fatherland). The main public rooms took advantage of an unusual arrangement of the routing from boiler to stack along the sides rather than center to feature long and unbroken access from a replica of the New York Ritz-Carlton Restaurant main dining room forward to the lounge and ball room aft. But as America Joined the war in 1917 the ship was seized and transitioned into becoming a transport ship. It could move more people faster than any other ship (loading to capacity of 11,000 in about 2 Hours). The ship’s size and speed made it fast enough to not require a military escort, an enormous advantage with so many German U-Boats breaking the travel route. During the war the ship made ten round trips transporting more than 119,000 troops to Europe. That process was reversed after the war with the ship's last voyage with returning troops arriving on 8 September 1919. The S.S. Leviathan’s efforts changed the course of the war and the world as we know it today. Accompanying the ship is “Lady Liberty” a sign of freedom, raising its torch high and proud thanking the ship and its crew for their service.
