Waterford refers to the renowned crystal and glassware company originally founded in Waterford, Ireland, in 1783 by brothers George and William Penrose. Known for producing high-quality cut glass characterized by brilliance, clarity, and intricate hand-cut designs, Waterford crystal became synonymous with luxury and craftsmanship throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Although the original company closed in 1851 due to financial difficulties, it was revived in 1947 and reestablished as a global symbol of fine crystal. Waterford is celebrated for its elegant stemware, chandeliers, bowls, and commemorative pieces—most famously, the crystal panels for the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball. Today, Waterford crystal is both a collector’s item and a staple of formal dining and décor, valued for its enduring beauty and artisanal heritage.
