Warren Cullar was born in 1942 in New Mexico. From an early age he showed an interest in art, exploring every form he could get his hands on. His family divided their time between the Texas coastline and the desert landscape he was born in, and the colors and textures of the American Southwest formed his favored palette, particularly in his sculpture and paintings. He obtained his AA in Architectural Engineering at Texas Tech in Lubbock in 1962, but quickly decided to devote his life to art, pursuing his bachelors at Abilene Christian College. He opened his first art gallery while still a senior, and after receiving his BFA in 1965 he worked for a year as a commercial artist for Fidelity Advertising, followed by a year as the advertising manager for Gibson’s department stores. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1962 to 1969, an experience that profoundly affected his political and social beliefs, and while obtaining his Masters at the Instituto de Allende in Guanajuato, Mexico he found his spiritual calling as well, exploring psychic phenomenon and engaging in automatic writing with a spirit guide he came to call Lightbringer. Returning to the United Stateshe served as assistant professor of art at Hardin Simmons University until 1971, before establishing the art department at Western Texas College which he ran until 1976. That year, after spending a summer studying art at Anishams University in Cairo, Egypt, he returned and left teaching to become a professional artist, opening his own studio and gallery in Austin, Texas. Over the next two and a half decades he traveled with several scientific expeditions as an artist, capturing landscapes in Peru, Easter Island, Spain, and more. In 2000 he met Kitty Biel, who became his muse and partner, and together they continue to travel and promote his art around the world from their home base in Wimberley, Texas.
