"Born in 1939, Wang Kai graduated from the Art Department of Fuxinggang College. He has served as art director of China Television Company and taught in the Art Department of Fuxinggang College. He is currently a professor of figure painting at the National Taiwan Center for Arts Education and a professor of advanced oil painting at the Taipei City Social Education Center. He is also a judge for the New Art and Literature Academy Awards, chairman of the China Artists Association, director of the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Research Association, and a reviewer of the Chinese Collectors Association. In his early years, he specialized in oil painting and was taught by Professor Lin Kegong, a famous Taiwanese family and a master of oil painting who studied in Europe. His figure painting was inspired by the brothers Liang Youming and Zhongming, pioneers of Taiwanese ink figure painting. He was fascinated by modern literature and published modern poetry and prose in the 1960s. Some of his works were selected into "Selected Modern Chinese Poems" and "Chinese New Literature Series". In 1963, he founded the "Benyu Painting Society", and held ten "Benyu Painting Exhibitions" with the creative concepts of humanity, life and thought. He created a series of oil paintings on the ten major national construction themes. At the same time, he began to use his expertise in Western painting sketching techniques and aesthetic experience, integrating the brushwork and spirit of Chinese painting, and devoted himself to the creation of modern ink figure painting. He was often invited to the National Taiwan Art Education Center and county and city cultural centers to give special lectures and demonstrations on the creation and demonstration of ink figure painting. He also guided outstanding students in the Social Education Center's oil painting class to establish the "Cai Yang Painting Society" and hold regular exhibitions every year. In the spring of 1980, at the invitation of the Berlin Writers' Association, he visited Europe, including Germany, Britain, France and Italy, to investigate art and exhibit his paintings, which were considered to "possess both Chinese classical charm and modern humanistic spirit." In 1981, he visited India, Nepal, Ceylon and other places to collect creative materials such as local customs and folkways. The following year, he held a solo exhibition "Flying Over the Third Pole" at the National Taiwan Museum of Art. He was the first Taiwanese painter to collect the style of Central Asia as his creative theme. During his nearly fifty years of creative career, he has held twelve solo exhibitions in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Berlin, Germany, Los Angeles, USA, etc., and has been invited to participate in more than one hundred important group exhibitions at home and abroad. He has been selected into the "Who's Who in Modern China", "Taiwan Contemporary Art Masters (published in Taiwan)", "Who's Who in Contemporary Chinese Art (published in Beijing)", and "World Chinese Artists' Achievement Encyclopedia (published in Hong Kong)"." - Artmaitre.com
