Wallace Silversmiths—originally founded as R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. in Wallingford, Connecticut by Robert Wallace in the 1830s—is a historic American maker of sterling silver flatware and hollowware known for combining craftsmanship with timeless design. After pioneering the use of German silver in the U.S. and expanding into sterling production, the company became famous for its richly detailed, three-dimensional patterns such as Rose Point (1934), Sir Christopher (1936), Stradivari (1937), and its signature Grand Baroque (1941) design. In the 1950s, Wallace acquired other firms including Watson and Tuttle, rebranding as Wallace Silversmiths in 1956. It later became part of Lifetime Brands through Syratech in 2006. Collectors recognize genuine Wallace sterling by hallmarks such as "Wallace Sterling," “925,” or the stag-head RW&S insignia. Pieces lacking these marks are typically silver-plated. Wallace remains a respected name in American silver for its ornate designs, quality craftsmanship, and historical legacy.
