Founded in Pécs in 1853, the Hungarian ceramics manufacturer Zsolnay achieved international renown under Vilmos Zsolnay through ground-breaking innovations like weather-resistant pyrogranite and iridescent eosin glazing. Its distinctive architectural and ornamental materials went on to adorn landmark structures such as the Hungarian Parliament Building and became iconic within the Art Nouveau movement. Despite enduring devastation during both World Wars and nationalization under Communist rule, the company returned to private ownership and remains a celebrated symbol of Hungarian craftsmanship today.
