Founded in 1927 by Walter Storz in Hornberg, Germany, Stowa (a portmanteau of its founder's name) is a historic German watchmaker renowned for its precision mechanical timepieces. By the late 1930s, the company embraced clean, functional aesthetics, producing early Bauhaus-style dress watches that laid the foundation for its enduring Antea collection. During World War II, Stowa established its horological legacy as one of just five original manufacturers commissioned to produce Flieger pilot watches and naval observation timepieces. Despite its Pforzheim factory being destroyed near the end of the war in 1945, the brand rebuilt and continued to expand its production of reliable wristwatches, sports models, and marine chronographs. Under the stewardship of watchmaker Jörg Schauer starting in 1996, Stowa modernized its operations while faithfully reproducing its most celebrated historical designs. Today, operating as part of the Tempus Arte Group, Stowa remains a favorite among watch collectors for its seamless blend of authentic vintage heritage and utilitarian German craftsmanship.
