Vintage Russian Fedoskino Lacquer Box. Lacquered box with scenery on the lid. Wording/signature in the lower left and lower right of the front of the lid. Depicting a wintery scene with houses, trees, and snow. 

Size: 5 1/4 x 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 in.

Fedoskino School lacquered boxes are exquisite Russian handcrafted boxes known for their detailed miniature paintings, created using a traditional technique that dates back to the late 18th century. Originating in the village of Fedoskino, near Moscow, these boxes are made from papier-mâché, then meticulously painted with fine brushes, often depicting Russian folklore, landscapes, and historical scenes. Unique to the Fedoskino School, artists frequently incorporate mother-of-pearl, gold, or silver leaf beneath layers of transparent paint, creating a luminous effect. These lacquered boxes are highly prized for their craftsmanship and artistic detail, making them sought-after collectibles and treasured pieces of Russian decorative art.
