Chinioti furniture is renowned, handcrafted wooden works originating from Chiniot, a city in Punjab, Pakistan. The craftsmanship reached its peak during the Mughal Era, particularly under the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan (1640-1656), whose governor brought in artisans from the region to build landmarks throughout the empire, fostering the industry and exposing it to traders from nearby nations. Famous for intricate hand carvings and being made from sturdy, durable Sheesham (rosewood), these pieces often feature traditional artistic designs influenced by Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, and Hindu philosophies and styles, and are still widely regarded throughout the Near and Far East with growing appreciation in the rest of the world since the beginning of the 20th Century.
