Vintage Mid Century Modern Metal Sputnik Chandelier - AS IS. 

Condition: One arm is loose. One bulb is missing. We cannot guarantee the working condition of any lamp or light fixture.

In 1957 humanity took its first true step into space, when the Soviet Union launched a small metal sphere with spindly antennas that began circling the Earth, beeping 80 times per minute and terrifying everyone down below in the United States. In true capitalist fashion, within just a few years a new type of ceiling light appeared that ushered in the dawn of the American Space Age, named after that initial foray into the final frontier: the Sputnik Chandelier. The constellation-like starburst pattern, made up of a central metallic sphere with multiple arms and exposed bulbs, was a shining example of early Atomic Age optimism, proof that the bleak Cold War didn’t have to be poorly lit. The style remains popular as part of the Mid Century Modern aesthetic, produced by countless companies, a beacon of the patriotic past and future all in one.
