Vintage Chinese Hand Carved Wood Chess Set. Each of the 32 pieces  are lovingly detailed, with a drawer on either side to keep them in. Brass handles and hardware, with floral, dragon, and bird decorations carved into the top edges.

Chess and checkers are both popular board games played on an eight-by-eight grid space checkered board by two players. While they share the common board and some similarities in movement (like diagonal movement in checkers and some chess pieces), chess is generally considered the more complex game, requiring strategic planning and calculation. Checkers, while simpler, still demands strategic thinking and foresight. Dice games can be played on boards or without, and have existed since long before either chess or checkers were created, played in ancient times both for pleasure and to determine important contracts and decisions. The random chance aspect of dice separates it from chess and checkers, but all three remain the most commonly enjoyed games by people around the world to this day.
