Vintage Chinese Export Famille Rose Porcelain Lowestoft Style Bowl. Vintage Chinese famille rose export porcelain bowl in English Lowestoft style, with painted flowers and gilt accents. Unmarked.

Chinese export porcelain refers to ceramics made in China from the 16th to the 19th centuries specifically for export to Europe, the Americas, and other foreign markets. These porcelains were often decorated with motifs appealing to Western tastes, such as floral patterns, landscapes, and scenes of everyday life, blending traditional Chinese artistry with foreign design elements. Highly prized for their delicate craftsmanship, translucent quality, and vibrant colors—especially underglaze blue—they became luxury items symbolizing wealth and sophistication. The trade in Chinese export porcelain played a crucial role in global commerce, influencing European ceramic production and fostering cross-cultural exchange during the Age of Exploration and beyond.

Provenance: Obtained from a landmark house in Greenwish, NY. Originally a gift from John Alexander McCone, sixth director of the CIA from 1961 to 1965.

Size: 9 x 9 x 4 in.
