Vintage "Bishops Inkwell" Heavy Guage Cut Crystal Inkwell Owned by William Appleton Lawrence. Heavy, crystal glass desk inkwell features a substantial square base with diamond-cut grid patterning around the lower perimeter and an ornate, engraved sterling silver or silver-gilt hinged dome lid showing rich age patina. Known historically as the "Bishops Inkwell," accompanying documentation traces its lineage to Bishop William Neilson McVickar of Rhode Island, who gifted it to his close friend, Bishop Phillips Brooks. It was subsequently passed down through Brooks's niece, Mary Isabella Brooks of North Andover, to Reverend William Appleton Lawrence during his tenure as Rector in Lynn (circa 1915–1926), and was ultimately presented by his widow to William Lawrence in 1970 following the death of Rt. Rev. William Appleton Lawrence in 1968.
