Hang Zhou Liming Chinese-style Clothes Co., Ltd. was founded in the city center of Hangzhou, China in 1897, and remains one of the longest continuously running family-owned clothing businesses in Southeast Asia. They expanded substantially after the fall of the Qing Dynasty, absorbing the Zhejiang Silk Company in the 1920s which allowed them to streamline production of a wide selection of clothing. In the 1940s the company began to develop new lines like “Feisong” and “Changshou” specifically to cater to the burgeoning American market, and were able to maintain Western connections long after the Communist revolution that helped them capture global distribution in the wake of the 1978 economic reforms. In 2011 “Zhenxing Xiang Chinese Clothing Making Skills” was included in the national intangible cultural heritage protection list by the State Council and the Ministry of Culture, with the company continuing to manufacture high-quality silk goods to this day under the seventh generation of family leadership.
