This is an eight volume set of novels by Victor Hugo published in English in New York by Thomas Nelson and Sons circa 1900.
The books are 3/4 bound, with five raised bands, six gilt-ruled compartments with gilt lettering and simple gilt decorations on the spine, textured green covers, slate green endpapers, beautiful frontispieces protected by tissue guards, then the title pages, the original white ribbon page markers are still attached ,and all the edges are gilt.
The titles are Notre Dame, Les Miserables (in three volumes), The Man Who Laughs, Toilers of the Sea, Hans of Iceland, and Ninety-Three.
The books all measure 6 3/8 x 4 1/2 in. wide, the bindings are tight and the pages and text are clean, with a tad of rubbing on some of the crowns, and Hans of Iceland has some folded pages towards the rear. That is the only real blemish, and an attractive set overall. W/hen you see the covers and spines, you'll understand why.
