V.W. Morris (19th Century) American, Western Railroad Oil on Canvas Painting. Signed, dated, and inscribed "Echo Cliffs, D. & R.G.R" (Denver and Rio Grande Railway)". Historic 1910 American Western railroad oil painting depicting the train route through the echo cliffs of the Royal Gorge in Colorado. The right to build this first corridor through the Rocky Mountains was hotly contested by two railway companies and resulted in what is known as the Royal Gorge Railroad War which was won in court by the Denver and Rio Grande Co. Today it is widely considered the most scenic railroad journey in the United States.
