This lot consists of three thermoplastic cases with tintypes. The first shows a tintype of a girl wearing a polka-dotted dress and sitting in a chair. The tintype is a ninth plate and hand-tinted. The embossed covers feature elaborate scrollwork and the motif is repeated on front and back (Krainik 488, Scroll). The ruby velvet lining is attractive, and the case has a loose clasp and was made by Critchlow in the 1850’s. The case measures 3 1/8 x 2 11/16 in. wide. The second case features a tintype of a girl in a period dress. The tintype is a ninth plate and hand-tinted. The embossed covers feature a Maltese cross with flowers in an oval border, and the motif is repeated on front and back (Krainik 454, Geometric / Floral). The velvet lining has wear, and the case has a small chip near the clasp. The case was made by S Peck in the 1850’s and measures 3 x 2 9/16 in. wide. The last case has a tintype of a gentleman with a mustache and small tie. The tintype is a ninth plate, and the embossed covers have a motif that is repeated on front and back (Krainik 433, Geometric). The velvet lining has some wear and the top hinge needs a pin to keep it in place. The case has nicely rounded corners, a snug clasp, and was made by Holmes, Booth, and Hayden in the 1850’s. The case measures 3 x 2 1/2 in. wide.
