These are two thermoplastic union cases with ambrotypes. The rectangular case features two sisters wearing period dresses. Both ambrotypes are ninth plates. The embossed covers feature a decorated oval, and the motifs are repeated on front and back (Krainik 445, Scroll). The clasp closes snugly and the case has nicely squared corners. The case was made by Littlefield Parsons in the 1850’s and measures 3 x 2 9/16 in. wide. The octagonal case has an ambrotype of a mother and child, and the ambrotype is a sixth plate. The embossed covers feature floral scrollwork which is repeated on the front and back covers (Krainik 344). The velvet lining has wear and the clasp does not close snugly, but the case is in very good condition. The case was made by S Peck in the 1850's and measures 3 3/4 x 3 5/16 in. wide.
