Tony Evans (1942-2009) Welsh/American, (3) Ceramic Pottery Vessels. 1 vase and 2 bowl shaped vessels. Each one signed on the underside or near the base.

Anthony Glyn “Tony” Evans (1942–2009) was a Welsh-born polymath who began his career in materials science before becoming an influential ceramic artist. Educated at Imperial College and later working at prestigious institutions like the Atomic Energy Research Establishment and UCSB, he made groundbreaking contributions to ceramics and fracture mechanics, earning fellowships in both the U.K. and U.S. national academies. His scientific work led him to the U.S., where he advised on nuclear safety and taught at Berkeley and UCSB. A chance encounter with Japanese raku pottery at the Smithsonian inspired him to leave academia and pursue art full-time. In California, he built a home studio and developed innovative ceramic and glaze techniques, producing a significant body of work collected worldwide. Despite a brief battle with cancer in 2009, his artistic legacy continues to influence contemporary ceramics.
