Tony Da (1940-2008) - This pottery is in near perfect condition; with very minor surface wear. Signed "DA" on the bottom. Tony Da, was the grandson of Maria and Julian Martinez, and the son of Popovi Da. All were talented potters and masters in the art of watercolors. Popovi Da, Tony's Da's, father was born Anthony Martinez in 1922; his Tewa name was Popvi Da, which he legally changed in 1948. Tony Da's artistic career was cut short in 1982 at age 42 due to a motorcycle accident which left him unable to make pottery. His pottery has been featured in numerous museum shows and a comprehensive book "Life and Art of Tony Da." Tony made approximately 450 pots. His work is hard to find and very collectable. Large intricate pieces of his work has sold for $150,000.
