Thomas L. Anderson (best known as Tom Anderson) was born in 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and his family moved through over thirty-six states by the time he was four, settling in Vancouver, Washington. While at Clark College he traveled to Europe and studied the works of the great masters, solidifying his fascination with art and earning his Associate of Arts degree in 1971. He was part of the inaugural class of the experimental Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, where he studied Asian art and philosophy as well as producing 16mm animation, established the FM radio station KAOS, and created a four-story mural before graduating with his Bachelors in 1973. That same year he co-founded Mansion Glass Studios in Olympia, later becoming a teaching assistant at the Pilchuck School and eventually shifting into creating his own studio focused on painting, metal fabrication, mixed media constructions, and printmaking. Today Anderson continues to regularly exhibit his work, which can be found in thousands of public and private collections along the West Coast.
