Toland Sand (Born 1949) American, Dichroic Optical Glass Art Float Sculpture. Uses a special technique to create reflective and color-shifting imagery, with a split base beneath the cube that can be maneuvered side-to-side for further combinations of color and light. Signed, numbered, and dated "J.C./Toland Sand 2459 6/06" on the side of the top segment of the removeable float base.

Toland Sand was born in Berkeley, California in 1949, but his family traveled extensively throughout his youth due to his father’s career with the CIA, with a formative period influenced by art and architecture during several years in Greece. He graduated from Colorado College in 1971 with a degree in Philosophy, and found himself “accidentally” immersed into the world of glass art when he took over a small glass business from a family friend in 1976. Working first in stained glass until 1983 and then a mixture of blown glass and architectural and dichroic glass from until 1988, he developed a cold-working glass sculpture technique that has been his signature style ever since. Since 2016 he has worked from a home studio in Carmel Valley, California, winning numerous accolades and having his work exhibited around the country.
