Tokuriki Tomikichirō (1902–2000) was a Japanese woodblock artist and an important figure in the twentieth-century revival of traditional Japanese printmaking. Born in Kyoto, he studied Japanese-style painting before turning to woodblock printing and became closely associated with the shin-hanga (“new prints”) movement, which sought to preserve the collaborative ukiyo-e tradition while appealing to modern audiences. Tokuriki produced atmospheric landscapes, city scenes, flowers, birds, and views of Kyoto, often characterized by delicate colors, careful attention to seasonal effects, and a tranquil, nostalgic mood. He also played a significant role as a publisher and print designer, working with carvers and printers and helping promote Japanese prints internationally. Through his own work and his support of younger artists, Tokuriki helped sustain the tradition of Japanese woodblock printing well into the modern era.
