Tilden Daken (1876-1935) American, Oil/Board"Little Yosemite Valley" Tilden Dakin Am./Calif. 1876-1935. Signed. Titled "Little Yosemite Valley" on the back. Tilden Daken was born in Bunker Hill, Illinois, and his family moved to California when he wasthree years old. When he was nine he began to learn the trade of decorator and mural painter. He grew up in San Francisco and studied briefly at the School of Design, but was mostly self-taught. By 1900 Dakenwas painting frescoes and decorating homes in the city. The fire of 1906 destroyed his studio and much of his early work. He soon opened a studio in Santa Rosa, and taught there before joining the art faculty at Ursuline College in Sonoma. Aprolific landscape painter, he painted in the redwoods, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Mann and Sonoma counties. Overall size: 23 x 19 in. Sight size: 17 1/2 x 13 1/2 in.
