Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) was one of the most influential American glass artists and designers in history, best known for his mastery of decorative iridescent techniques and playing a key role in the Art Nouveau movement. The son of Tiffany & Co. founder Charles Lewis Tiffany, he chose to forge his own creative path, starting as a painter before transitioning to interior design and decorative arts. He revolutionized glassmaking by developing Favrile glass, an iridescent, handblown material that allowed rich colors and textures to be embedded directly into the glass rather than painted on top. Through Tiffany Studios he produced iconic leaded-glass lamps, breathtaking stained glass windows, and intricate decorative objects that celebrated natural, organic motifs. Today his innovative craftsmanship and lush visual aesthetic remain defining hallmarks of American Gilded Age design and turn-of-the-century decorative art, held in museums and collections across the globe.
