Thangkas are traditional Tibetan Buddhist scroll paintings, typically created on cotton or silk, that depict deities, mandalas, spiritual teachers, or symbolic scenes used for meditation and teaching. Carefully painted according to strict iconographic guidelines, thangkas serve both as devotional objects and visual guides to Buddhist philosophy. Their vivid colors, intricate details, and layered symbolism are meant to inspire contemplation, preserve sacred stories, and support spiritual practice, making them both works of art and important cultural artifacts.
