Three Kingdoms Earthenware Soldier. 3rd/6th Century AD. The figure in military attire, with a head covering, one arm at his side, the other projecting outward, remnants of of a greenish-black glaze. (repairs).

The Three Kingdoms of Cao Wei, Shu Han, and Eastern Wu dominated China from 220 to 280 AD following the end of the Han Dynasty, beginning with the establishment of Cao Wei in 220 and ending with the conquest of Wu by Jin in 280. The period immediately preceding the Three Kingdoms from 184 to 220 was marked by chaotic infighting among warlords across China as Han authority collapsed. The period from 220 to 263 was marked by a comparatively stable arrangement between Wei, Han, and Wu. It was in this window of time that the arts and culture of China flourished the most due to peace, while the earlier and final years showed tremendous paradigm shifts in weaponry and apparel. The greenish black glaze on this figure suggests that it came from the northern part of the Wu kingdom towards the end of their reign, possibly from the Hangzhou region.
