Titled "Thais", black & white etching of a statuesque African-American female nude, lounging at the window with blinds closed. Pencil signed indistinctly. Likely Mid-20th Century.
The title is a reference to the Athenian courtesan who traveled with the army of Alexander the Great in its invasion of Persia. Courtesans in Greek and Roman comedy were often named Thais. There is also a Christian saint by the name of Thais, a reformed prostitute.
