Takahashi Hiroaki (1871–1945), also known as Shotei, was a Japanese woodblock print artist associated with the shin-hanga (“new prints”) movement. He was known for his atmospheric landscapes, often depicting quiet villages, temples, bridges, rivers, and scenes in snow or moonlight. Hiroaki’s prints combined traditional Japanese woodblock techniques with Western influences, particularly in their use of perspective, light, and realistic shading. His delicate compositions and peaceful moods made his work popular both in Japan and internationally, especially during the early 20th century.
