Southwestern Navajo Style Striped Rug.
Navajo-style rugs are handwoven textiles inspired by the traditional weaving of the Navajo Nation, renowned for their durability, intricate patterns, and cultural symbolism. Authentic Navajo rugs are made on upright looms using hand-spun wool, often dyed with natural pigments, and feature bold geometric designs, stepped patterns, and a balanced use of color rooted in Navajo cosmology. These designs can range from simple banded patterns to complex pictorials, reflecting both historic regional styles and the weaver’s personal artistry. While genuine Navajo rugs are highly valued for their craftsmanship and cultural heritage, “Navajo-style” rugs may be produced outside the Navajo community, imitating the distinctive aesthetics while varying in materials, weaving methods, and authenticity.
