Sergio Bustamante (Born 1949) Mexican, Pegasus In An Egg Papier-Mache Sculpture. Depicts a whimsical image of the mythological horse emerging new-born and fully-formed from an egg. Signed on the top of the egg near Pegasus. 

Condition: Cracking to the surface of the papier-mâché throughout. Particular cracking on the base of the egg. Overall good. 

Size: 5 x 5 x 7 in. 

 

Sergio Bustamante is a Mexican artist and sculptor who was born in Culiacan, Sinaloa, in 1949, and studied architecture at the University of Guadalajara. Bustamante’s first art exhibition showcased paintings and papier-mâché figures at the Galeria Misracha in Mexico City in 1966. In 1972 Bustamante relocated to Amsterdam to expand his skills in paint and design, and to “learn how to be alone and self-sufficient.” In 1975, not long after his return to Mexico, he established his Family Workshop Studio in Tlaquepaque, where he has lived, worked, and created art ever since. Two additional studios have since opened, thanks to his growing appeal in the art world, and by branching out into wood and bronze sculpture as well.
