Small Bronze Bust of Dante. A small bronze bust of Dante Alighieri, his name incise across his chest. 

Size: 3 1/2 x 4 in.

 

Dante Alighieri (1265–1321), the famed Italian poet best known for The Divine Comedy, has long been celebrated not only for his literary genius but also as a symbol of Italian cultural identity and intellectual legacy. His distinctive features—long, austere face, aquiline nose, laurel wreath, and characteristic medieval cap—have made him a popular subject for sculptural portraiture, particularly busts. From the Renaissance onward, busts of Dante have adorned libraries, studies, and institutions as emblems of poetic insight and philosophical depth. These likenesses often convey a solemn, contemplative expression, reinforcing his role as a guide through the realms of the afterlife and as a towering figure in the Western literary canon.
