Sister Mary Corita Kent (1918–1986) was an American artist, educator, and nun known for her vibrant, text-based serigraphs that blended pop art with social activism. Her work often incorporated bold colors, uplifting messages, and quotes from literature, scripture, and contemporary culture, reflecting themes of love, peace, and justice. As a member of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, she taught art in Los Angeles before leaving religious life in 1968 to focus on her artistic career. Her innovative approach and advocacy for social change made her a significant figure in both the art world and the activist movements of the 1960s and 1970s.
