Born in Lyon, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts there and developed a reputation for exquisitely rendered floral compositions that combined scientific precision with decorative elegance. Saint-Jean regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon, where his work received considerable acclaim and several medals. His paintings often featured lush arrangements of roses, peonies, and other blossoms placed in elegant vases against dark or neutral backgrounds, emphasizing texture, color, and light.
