Simon Glücklich (1863–1943) was an Austrian-born painter who worked primarily in Munich and became known for genre scenes, landscapes, portraits, nudes, and allegorical and mythological subjects. Born in Bielitz, Austrian Silesia (now Bielsko-Biała, Poland), he was the son of decorative painter Leo Glücklich and studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1880 to 1890, including under the genre and landscape painter Leopold Carl Müller. After a formative study trip to Upper Italy, Glücklich settled permanently in Munich in 1890, where he developed a refined academic style often infused with the decorative qualities of Jugendstil. He was particularly admired for idyllic scenes of children and women in gardens and parks, as well as portraits of aristocratic and affluent sitters. His works were exhibited regularly in Munich, Berlin, and Düsseldorf, and Emperor Franz Joseph I acquired several of his paintings. Glücklich received the Gold Medal at the International Art Exhibition in Munich in 1905, and his paintings are held in collections including the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, and the Lenbachhaus. He died in Munich in 1943.
