Set of (8) Vintage English Aynsley China Dessert Plates. Matching pattern, with six panels containing blue and gilt repeating shapes within, with similar borders around the bowl and rim. Marked with a green crown and "Aynsley England" on the undersides, indicating this was likely made in the 20th Century.

Founded in 1775 by John Aynsley in Longton, Staffordshire, Aynsley China Ltd. was a distinguished British manufacturer of bone china tableware, giftware, and commemorative items. The company expanded significantly in 1861 when the founder’s grandson built the Portland Works facility, and became a favored supplier of the British royal family renowned for its high quality, with pieces chosen as official wedding gifts for both Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana. In 1970 following a bidding war among major pottery makers, the business was acquired by Waterford Glass and rebranded as Aynsley China Ltd. Waterford later sold the firm in 1987 to focus on the Wedgwood brand, leading to its eventual acquisition by Ireland’s Belleek Pottery Group in 1997. Facing economic shifts, Aynsley permanently closed its historic Stoke-on-Trent manufacturing plant in September 2014, marking the end of its centuries-long domestic production, but the fact that it uniquely concentrated almost exclusively on the United Kingdom market throughout its existence has led them to become highly sought collectibles in modern times.
