Artist Biography:
Sebastião Salgado (born February 8, 1944) is a Brazilian photographer renowned for his striking black-and-white images that capture the human condition and environmental issues. Originally trained as an economist, Salgado transitioned to photography in the 1970s and gained global acclaim for his documentary projects, which often focus on social inequality, migration, and the effects of globalization. His major works include "Workers," "Migrations," and "Genesis," the latter celebrating the planet's natural beauty and biodiversity. Salgado and his wife, Lélia Wanick Salgado, also co-founded the Instituto Terra, an environmental organization dedicated to reforestation and sustainable development in Brazil. His work combines artistry with advocacy, making him one of the most influential photographers of his time.
