Two black & white etchings by Samuel Colman: On the Darro, and In the Cathedral Cordova. A leading American nineteenth century etcher and painter of landscapes and marine subjects, Samuel Colman studied art techniques under Asher Brown Durand in New York. He also studied both etching and painting in France and Spain from 1860 to 1862. Colman was elected an Associate of the National Academy in 1860 and an Academician in 1862. He was also a founding member of the American Society of Painters in Water Colors and of the New York Etching Club. A constant traveler, Samuel Colman's etchings and paintings depict scenes in Europe, North Africa and the American West.
