This is a rare lithograph by Salvador Dali entitled “Don Jose’s Final Appearance: the Bat Symbolizing Death” from the Carmen suite, which was based on the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet. There are only 26 lettered copies of this lithograph, so it is a rare lithograph indeed. It is printed on a cotton-like material, not regular paper. The work is listed on page 160 of the official catalog of the graphic works of Salvador Dali by Albert Field, referenced by Bruce Hochman, tmOS. Signed in green and dated 1968 in green on the plate in the upper right, it is lettered B/J in the margin on the lower left and signed in the margin on the lower right. There were 125 copies (1 - 125) printed with Arabic numerals, 125 copies in Roman numerals (from I - CXXV), just 26 lettered copies (from A - Z), and a few proofs. The overall size is 26 1/2 x 30 1/2 in. wide and the sight size is 25 1/2 x 19 3/4 in. wide.
