Rylie Dexter was born in Colchester, Connecticut in 1994. As a child he developed a love of art and storytelling, influenced by both contemporary and classical works and drawn to anime cinema. He graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida in 2017 with honors, receiving his BFA in film. He went on to work as a video editor for a major entertainment company, while also working on theatrical productions and gradually returning to his first love, visual art. Today he makes costumes, sculptures, assemblages, acrylics, watercolors, digital artwork, and films from his home studio in the Tampa Bay area, with his whimsical surrealist “Post Pulp” style appreciated by collectors along the East Coast.
The Community Foundation of Sarasota County was founded in 1979 by the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council in an effort to support cultural, educational, economic, and social growth in the area. Over forty years later, more than $500 million has been raised through 1,590 charitable funds to bolster these goals, and in the 21st Century disaster relief has become a new focus as major hurricanes have become more and more common. The purpose of their Suncoast Disaster Recovery Fund, activated in the days before Hurricane Ian made landfall in 2022, is to support and benefit Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto and Charlotte Counties for disaster recovery to improve individual, family, and community resiliency, helping people rebuild their lives beyond initial rebuilding of structures. Long-term recovery restores structures, systems, and services, addressing sources of inequitable outcomes, and involves listening to those most impacted with losses, understanding community needs, and assessing community damage. It is achieved through collaboration with government and school officials, funders, community leaders, and nonprofit partners, and has become as integral to the region as arts funding, ecological preservation, and health and human services.
