Ruth Abrams (American 1912-1986) Abstract. Signed. Abrams was born in Brooklyn, New York. Throughout her education she remained in New York City where she attended Columbia University, the Art Students League, and the New School of Social Research. She also participated in art classes led by influential artists, including Alexander Archipenko and William Zorach, recognized for their use of abstraction in painting and sculpture. In addition to painting, Abrams wrote and co directed an art film entitled, Paradox of the Big. In 1965, she became the art director for the New School of Social Research where she later taught in 1976. She also taught at New York University, and the Ringling School of Art in Florida.
