Roy Fairchild Woodard (born 1953 in Surrey, England) is a British artist best known for his richly detailed paintings, serigraphs and printmaking that blend technical precision with poetic, decorative imagery. Trained in graphic design and technical illustration, he initially worked commercially under the name Woodard, producing airbrush illustrations, serigraphs and lithographs, before securing the financial freedom in the 1980s to focus full-time on his own art under his family name, Fairchild. His work is deeply influenced by Renaissance frescoes, tapestries and European travel—especially in Italy—which inform his sophisticated use of color, pattern and layered surfaces. Based most of the year at his peaceful country home, he travels widely across Europe for inspiration and is collected internationally for his evocative, timeless compositions.
