Roger's Violet Ray Vitalator.

A violet ray device was an electrotherapy medical device that used a high-frequency electrical current to produce a violet electrical discharge. A set of eletrodes would then be applied across the skin, where the 'violet ray' would allegedly promote circulation, healing, pain reduction, and provide a variety of other dubious benefits. 

While the device was popular in the early to mid 20th century, its actual medical benefits were unsubstantiated, and by the mid century the device and those similar had largely fallen out of favor. Today, the vitalator is considered a collector's curiosity.
