Roderick Dhu Morrison was born on December 10th, 1889 in Inverness, Scotland. As a youth he was interested in art, but was ultimately called to become a Christian pastor, eventually immigrating to the United States in the 1910s. He traveled from New York City to Pasadena, California on a preaching mission, finally settling there when he met and fell in love with his wife Viola. He became the pastor of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, and spent the next thirty years involved in religious and charitable work. Encouraged by his wife, he began to explore his love of painting once again, frequently capturing landscapes, coastal scenes, and desertscapes in oils on board. He died of a sudden heart attack on October 10th, 1955, and his works are still highly appreciated and sought along the West Coast, with the largest collection in the archives of the South California Artists Association.
