Robert Solotaire (1930-2008) American, Street Scene Oil on Board. Depicts a vibrant, lush farmer's market scene with people strolling near a flower garden buying goods from a seller at a stand. Signed and dated Sept '02, DW bottom right. A small tag on the back of the frame reads "From the Estate of Robert Solotaire" along with his signature and his age range.

Robert Solotaire was born in 1930 Manhattan, the son of a man who ran a theater ticket agency, and was exposed to the arts in myriad forms all through his childhood. He attended Bard College and held a series of jobs writing, including in Public Relations at Time, before being encouraged by his friend and mentor Stephen Etnier to pursue a career in painting. At first inspired by city scenes and scapes, he began traveling around the country for new views to inspire him, with his works shown in galleries and museums in Pittsburgh, Santa Fe, and Portland, Maine, where he, his wife, and their children moved permanently in 1973. He continued to paint there, incorporating more and more natural scenery into his works, right up until his death on October 3rd, 2008.
